Artistes Of The Year Category is one of the huge nomination category at the forth coming 13th Headies Award.
This category has artistes adjudged to record
massive success under the year in review which is from January 2018 till date.
Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and
Falz are the nominees in this category.
Hence, to actually determine who is most deserving of the Artiste Of The Year Award requires a scan through to the impacts of these artistes under the year in review and the level of success recorded.
Burna Boy
He bounced back into the music industry in 2018 like he never left.

Davido
DMW Senior-Prefect and Proprietor wasn’t sleeping at all in 2018. He is one of the most active artistes in 2018 till this moment.
Davido had his name flying everywhere in 2018, from shaking the industry with scores of hit singles to “rise by lifting others” gesture to fast-rising artistes.
With Assurance alone, Davido ‘s influence in the music industry was well felt. The song made hit as it is a song sang from his heart for the “love of his life” Chioma.
“ Flora My Flawa “, “ Wonder Woman “, “ Nwa Baby ” and lots more are Davido ‘s chart topping singles of 2018 not to talk of his hit featured songs, “ One Ticket ” with Kizz Daniel , “ Osanle” with Zlatan, “ Twisted ” with Perruzi among others.

Wizkid
Despite not coming all out with music contents and heavy promotions within 2018 till this moment, Wizkid has been effortlessly making massive impacts in the music industry.
Before releasing his first set of 2018 singles “ Fever ” and “ Master Groove “, Wizkid‘s impact on collaboration songs are always felt both at home and abroad.
DJ Spinall’s “ Nowo “, Mystro’s “ Immediately “, Duncan Mighty’s “ Fake Love ” are songs that made hits courtesy Wizkid’s vocal presence. Let’s not forget “ Soco “.
One Africa’s Music Fest in Dubai and Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg are some of the international stages Starboy performed wonders in 2018.
Meanwhile, his performance at Made In Lagos, Afro Republic, Castle Lite Unlocks are still fresh in our minds.
How about his huge impact on Beyonce‘s “ Lion King Album “? Starboy actually made the track “ Brown Skin Girl” the only most blown African artiste assisted song on the album.
Wizkid on this list is not a mistake and of-course winning this award won’t be a mistake either.
Tiwa Savage
If there is a rule that says a female artiste must be on this category, then Tiwa Savage is more than qualified but if not, the ex Mavin First Lady should not have a space on this list.
Tiwa Savage was more or less silent in 2018 as nothing was heard from her till August 2018 when she released “ One ” and some few average collaborative singles.
The only time Tiwa Savage‘s name was seriously felt in the music industry in 2018 was when she played video vixen in “ Fever ” music video where she helped Wizkid take advantage of their dating rumours to sell that record.
He recent appearance on Beyonce’s Lion King album and her new single “ 49-99 ” scored her lots of points to make her at least worth the “Artiste Of The Year” nomination.
Falz
Not many Nigerian artistes do conscious music that preaches against the ills of Nigerian society.
Falz had a fantastic 2018 with “ This is Nigeria” a song that throws stone to every corrupt individuals in Nigeria.
His album, “ Moral Instruction ” released this year 2019 is also a brilliant body of work from Mr. Falana.
He might seem to be the least favourite to win this award but a deep look at his contributions under the year in review in terms of lyrical contents and creativity in music videos, you will be convinced that Falz is worth it if he wins.
