Nigerians Mourn An Institution As Adebayo Faleti Dies At 86

”Baba oni fila gobi” has gone to be with his creator. Adebayo Faleti, renowned Nigerian actor, author, broadcaster and poet is dead.

Reports say Faleti died in the early hours of Sunday morning at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Faleti holds the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and was responsible for translating Nigeria’s National Anthem from English to Yoruba.

Faleti, who has also published a dictionary containing the formal or official use of Yoruba names, was one of the pioneer staff of the first television station in Africa, Western Nigeria Television (WNTV).

Faleti also starred in Mainframe‘s Thunderbold, Saworoide and many other TV serials from the 60s to the early 2000s.May his soul rest in peace!
